What the best material for a pool deck must do
Poolside surfaces create a set of competing priorities. A finish that feels cool can be porous. A highly textured surface can improve grip but make patio furniture harder to move. A low-cost slab may look acceptable on day one but become a drainage and cracking problem after several seasons.

Because the surface is relatively nonporous, spilled food, sunscreen, and poolside messes are generally easier to clean.
The trade-off is installation precision. Porcelain requires a properly prepared base, careful edge detailing, and a drainage strategy that accounts for the low permeability of the surface. In a freeze-thaw climate, shortcuts below the pavers can lead to movement, lippage, and recurring repairs. The paver itself may be durable, but the entire assembly must be designed to be durable.
